Demo and Workshop Description:
Creative Contemporary Landscape with Acrylics with HOLLY HUNTER BERRY    Instructing others in the language of artistic expression is a passion of Holly's as much as actually creating her own works of art. In this workshop, Holly will start by choosing a reference photo with good composition and plan her intention for the painting, which also includes choosing a color scheme. Before starting the actual painting, she creates the underpainting with her "Glorious Mess" (multi-colored/textured) technique. Next, she sketches the subject onto the underpainting and proceeds to build the painting using a strong value map of choice. You will learn how she works with transparent and opaque paints and how she allows the underpainting to integrate with her subject. While this subject is for a landscape painting, you will be able to apply these techniques and various instructions to other subjects as well.
In this workshop, we will be using a photo of Holly's for reference. The composition is in a square format so any size you prefer is acceptable as long as it is a square. You can paint on canvas, board, paper or any support you choose. If you would like random texture in your painting, she suggests you apply it to your support before class so it can dry. It can be collaged papers (no color), textured gels or pastes. Holly also advises if you are using paper to keep it white or off white. Color will be added later. You need the acrylic paints and supplies that you would normally use. If you own fluid acrylics, great but no need to purchase them. She uses both fluid and thicker acrylics in her work. She uses alcohol in the underpainting but no need to purchase if you don't have it... it's just a fun addition to use it! She uses willow charcoal, medium weight to sketch her drawing on my support but feel free to use whatever you are used to, it can even just be paint! A BIG plus would be to have a hairdryer handy as there will be several layers to this process! Bring your spirit of adventure and an attitude of "what if"! Let's have some fun! -Holly
