Jay Larsson | Urban Sketching-Drawing What You See (Plein Air)
Demo | Workshop Description:
The workshop will show methodology for rapid sketching in an urban or “real” environment using pencil, pen and a sketch pad. In this class a photograph will substitute for “reality”, due to social distancing requirements. Learn how to analyze your viewpoint, construct the basic layout of an image in pencil, how to understand perspective, scale and depth, and execute the image into a pen/ink illustration. Once the pen/ink work is completed, further develop your drawing with color pencils for a final “urban sketch”. Learn how to “lay down” color, blend color pencils and slowly build up tones and textures to complete the image.
The workshop will allow each individual to execute their own image from the photograph used in the workshop. Develop your own style and technique using the materials at hand. The goal is to enable one to understand the environment of the "urban sketch", then use pen/ink and color pencils to complete the image.
