This is the video from our Urban Sketching demo with Jay Larsson.
Urban sketching Demo with Artist Jay Larsson The video became a bit grainy and pixelated due to some Latency (internet connection speed) issues during our Live Feed, but the audio is crystal clear and filled with valuable information. Thanks for watching!

Demo | Workshop Description:

The workshop will show methodology for rapid sketching in an urban or “real” environment using pencil, pen and a sketch pad. In this class a photograph will substitute for “reality”, due to social distancing requirements. Learn how to analyze your viewpoint, construct the basic layout of an image in pencil, how to understand perspective, scale and depth, and execute the image into a pen/ink illustration. Once the pen/ink work is completed, further develop your drawing with color pencils for a final “urban sketch”. Learn how to “lay down” color, blend color pencils and slowly build up tones and textures to complete the image.
The workshop will allow each individual to execute their own image from the photograph used in the workshop. Develop your own style and technique using the materials at hand. The goal is to enable one to understand the environment of the "urban sketch", then use pen/ink and color pencils to complete the image.

OUTDOOR WORKSHOP SITE
Ever wonder what "Plein Air" means?
Simply put, en plein air, is a French term that means
outdoors, relating to painting, or in this case
sketching, in outdoor lighting.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
My name is Jay Robert Larsson. I am an Architect, Illustrator, Photographer and an Urban Sketcher based in Houston, with seasonal studios in Boulder, Colorado and Stockholm. Sketching has always played an important role in my architectural work and I utilize my craft to capture environments in urban settings. My work is always done "on site", augmented by studio work to complete and digitize the images for printing.
